Enhancing Literacy for Poverty Eradication

Project Purpose

Print Email

The purpose of the EABD Project (or immediate sector objective) is to facilitate development of all aspects of the book sector in East Africa, from authorship and publishing to book distribution and readership, for it to effectively produce and disseminate relevant, adequate and affordable information to the citizenry.

Towards achieving this purpose, the four-pronged strategy developed in Phase I of the project was applied during 2006:

  • First, stakeholders were mobilised according to their various professional associations and structured into national organisations (councils).
  • Their ideas and aims were then synchronized into objective-based national and regional plans.
  • Thirdly, resources (mostly financial) were secured and equitably allocated through the national co-ordinating organs.
  • Fourthly, the planned activities were implemented in a logical and participatory manner, and co-ordinated by the national and regional secretariats.
