Partners and Donors

  • Sida, through its Culture and Media Department, has been the main partner and donor to EABDA and its activities since 1998. One of Sida's objectives is to contribute to the empowerment of people living in poverty as regards power, influence and opportunities. This can lead to enhanced social and economic resources and increased security for men and women, girls and boys living in poverty.
  • Hivos, Netherlands, has financially supported the hosting of the book weeks since 2008. Hivos is an innovative Dutch non-governmental organisation inspired by humanist values, which seeks to contribute to a free, fair and sustainable world.
  • Book Aid International partnered with EABDA from 2004 to 2009 and donated over 30 000 books to the EABD Project's reading tents and library development activities annually. BAI works with partners in developing countries to create reading and learning opportunities for people of all ages to realise their potential and alleviate poverty.
  • At the national levels, the Ministries of Education and Culture have supported the national councils' in organising book week activities.
  • Other donors have included the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) which funded the end of Phase I of the EABDA Project's external evaluation and UNESCO which funded the development of the draft national book policy in Tanzania.
